The music industry has filed hundreds of lawsuits to try and prevent the free peer-to-peer sharing that occurs on file sharing networks such as Napster and the most popular file sharing network today, Kazaa. The lawsuits have stopped many people from sharing music files but, the record industry is still losing millions of dollars each year making it harder for new artists to begin their careers because of the lack of profit they need to fund their recordings. The music industry has been collecting data from file sharing networks; which, result in internet customers having internet privacy rights violated. The music industry hacking onto file sharing networks and recording the amount of files one shares on the internet is a direct violation of internet privacy laws and no one should be allowed access to another’s personal information without permission. So far, file sharing has been proven legal over and over; as a result the music industry has had no choice but, to sue those who share massive quantities of files and hope to settle the issue out of court. To put an end to this mess, the internet laws must be better enforced and peer-2-peer networking must be limited to those who are paying to download MP3s. Therefore, the music industry and the artists will receive a percentage for their work and copyright violation will cease to exist when dealing with file sharing over the internet, which; sequentially will eliminate internet privacy infringement as well.
